Effect of Bentonite Content on Hydraulic Conductivity of Sand-Bentonite Mixtures Used in Landfill Liners as an Alternative to Clay Liner in Egypt

Abstract Compacted clays are commonly utilized as landfill liners due to their impermeable properties, however, the availability of natural clay soil may be difficult or prohibitively expensive in some regions thanks expense transportation, local regulation. As an alternative hydraulic barrier, a compacted mixture sand with low percentage bentonite (6% 14%) was used. The purpose this research is investigate applicability available Egyptian market for controlling conductivity sand-bentonite mixtures used liners. study divided into two phases: first, laboratory tests were conducted identify optimum and types, using commercial products. Then, distinct layers, full-scale measurements obtained. experimental program demonstrated that Bentonite produced found can acceptable quality control procedure prevent any outcome deviation.
